I understand 5 years with a residence permit, can’t be out of Turkey more than 6 months. At the time of application for citizenship have to have a work permit. I was told by another consultant agency that Turkish citizenship is not being granted from a short term residence permit or from a long-term (sinirsiz ikamet) Is this true? According to this agency one must obtain a work permit and sustain it for 5 years before a foreigner is eligible for citizenship. Is this true?

    thank you

Hi. I have been living in Turkey for just over 9 years. I have been on a short term residency permit for the whole duration. Today I went to the nufus to start my citizinship process. I have been married to my Turkish husband for 3 1/2 years. The nufus worker looked at my short term residency card and told me it has to be a family residency permit to apply for citizenship. I’m sure this is untrue. Thanks for any help

    Dear Sir/Madam,

If my father invests the required amount by buying a property in Turkey, am I also eligible for citizenship? And also what happens with conscription for new citizens, are all new citizens required to complete conscription like any other citizen, or pay the required amount, or have already completed conscription in another country?

    Thank you kindly

    • ExpatGuideTurkey

      Dear Mr Ali,

If you father invest in a Turkish Property and wish to apply for the Citizenship by Investment program you mother will be elligible for the Turkish citienship just after your father is issued the Turkish Citizenship.
The children of the applicant under 18 years old will be able to apply for the Turkish citizenship however children over 18 years old will not be able to apply for the Turkish Citizenship.

Also the mandatory military service will be only for applicant under 22 years old.

      Best Regards,

    Hello,
I want to apply for the Turkish citizenship as I have been working in Turkey for 9 years.
Once I get it, does my work status change? I am an international hire and I have benefits that Turkish nationals don’t have. I was told (by friends) that as long as my contract is being renewed according to my current passport “Canadian ” I shouldn’t have a problem. However, I need confirmation. Do you have an idea concerning this issue?
    Many thanks,
    Kate

Hello. I am lebanese residing in Lebanon. My mother got her turkish citizenship 2 days ago because her mother is turkish. Do i have the right to apply for turkish citizenship without residing there?

  • Hala

Thank you for the great efforts. My questions is related to students, you said student residency doesn’t qualify you to apply
But if heard if you’re a master student and studies four years in Turkey then had a work permit for one year then you’re qualified to apply for citizenship

Is that true ? and if yes then what are the conditions?

    Hi
I’m a Canadian national. I applied for Turkish nationality 5 months ago since I’m married to a Turkish national. I have a file number and completed all formalities in the Turkish Embassy in Kuwait. My application has been approved.
What website do I inquire with to see if may documents are ready?

  • Sheila Sert

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am an Irish national living in Istanbul. I am married for 20 years to a Turkish national and am now applying for Turkish citizenship. My application was started in October 2016 and I am now awaiting news about it. My work permit has finished in March and I am thinking about going to Ireland in July, so what can I do if I have no residency permit or citizenship at that time? Also, is it a problem if my residency permit is no longer valid even though I am registered as having applied for turkish citizenship?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi,
Thank you so much for the valuable website and details.
Is there any limitation of rights for the exceptional citizenship. is it identical to normal citizenship.
As I can apply for exceptional citizenship now, but if I wait for 6 month I can apply for citizenship after a 5 years work permit.
    Many thanks.

    • ExpatGuideTurkey

Hello, there is no limitation of rights for the exceptional citizenship and there are some advantegous parts of it temper to normal citizenship. If you meet the conditions, we suggest you to apply. Your foreign spouse and children (under 18 years old) can benefit from exceptional citizenship. The process continues more quickly because there is no need some documents (health report etc).

    plse answer

    • ExpatGuideTurkey

If you have a residence permit in turkey and you are a citizen of two different countries besides Turkish Citizenship with your spouse, and if the embassy in Turkey does not give your child citizenship, we recommend you to apply to the embassy of your state in Turkey. If your application is negative, you will be entitled to apply for Turkish citizenship at your place of birth by documenting this situation. For citizenship and residence permit, you can apply to the provincial governor in Turkey.

  • Ghazwan Tahsin

My late mother was Turkish citizen by origin, and my late father became Turkish citizen.

I found out that I am registered in Nufus, but I didn’t know about it till my mother passed away.

I have the documents that proof this.

What are the chances of me getting Turkish citizenship.

Thank you very much for your reply.

    Ghazwan.

    • ExpatGuideTurkey

Hello, you’ve that your late mother is a Turkish citizen, and if you have registered, you have been registered with the notification of your mother. In this case you are already a Turkish citizen. The sample of the register proves that you are a Turkish citizen.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Greetings

I present my compliments to you and have the honor to inform you that I am iraqi living in jordan and I have few inquiries regarding the turkish citizenship and if I am in title to have or not:

My father ‘s grandfather was an officer at the ottoman army and used to have ottoman citizenship but due to war circumstances we lost most of our papers and documents so my question is can I apply for a citizenship or not and if yes how much does the case cost and the process time to get it?

My id proves that he is my grandfather and I have an old picture of him wearing his military uniform and standing between the soldiers. But still I need his old ottoman id from the official office in turkey and also he studied in Istanbul.

Your response and advice is highly appreciated

With much appreciation and kindest regards

    Yours Sincerely,

    Sarah Ramly‎
