Work Permit Applications

Applications for work permit are made through e-Government portal of Turkey (www.turkiye.gov.tr). The automated work permit application system enables the users to fill the online work permit application form and upload necessary documents into the system. Once online application is made through the e-government portal, the employer is required to make direct application to the Ministry by mail or in person.  Duly applications are finalized by the Ministry at most thirty days and once the decision is made, the ministry informs the applicant through e-mail. Foreigners residing outside the Turkey can make their work permit applications through the Turkish representative offices in their home countries. In the existence of residence permit valid for at least 6 months, foreigners residing in Turkey can make their applications directly to Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

1.   FOREIGNERS RESIDING OUTSIDE OF TURKEY

Foreigners residing outside the Turkey are subject to apply for work permit from the representative offices of Turkey in their own countries. Pursuance to work permit application of foreigner, within 10 working days the employer should process both online and direct applications to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security in Turkey. Once the approval from the Ministry is granted, foreigners are required to apply for work visa to the Turkish representative office within 90 days.
As per new rules on residence permits, valid working permissions will be now used as residence permits as well. Thus work permit validity requirement of residence permit application within 30 days upon obtaining the work permit (for consulate applications 30 days was starting upon arrival of work permit holders) will be outlawed.  On the other hand the same as work permits, “Work Permit Exemption Certificates” will also be used as residence permits.

2.   FOREIGNERS RESIDING INSIDE TURKEY

Foreigners with residence permit valid for at least 6 months may make their applications to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security internally. Internal applications are made by the employer directly to the Ministry. Once the online application is submitted, the employer is required to make direct application to the Ministry within 6 working days.

3.   WORK PERMIT EXTENSION APPLICATIONS

Extension application of the work permit period is made to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. As Internal applications, after submitting online applications, direct application to ministry should be made within 6 working days. The application for extension should be filed within 2 months before or 15 days after the expiry date of the work permit.  After 15 days period, the applicant no longer may request for extension and the application is regarded as initial application.

    Hi,

My brother has obtained a work visa to work for a company in Turkey and is currently in the process of obtaining a visa. The company want my brother to do his two week training course in Turkey, rather than going back to London to do it there. His question is: can he do the two week training course in Turkey if he does not have his visa yet?

    Many thanks.

    • ExpatGuideTurkey

      Hello,
      Thank you for your comment.

We do not know the details about visa process or type of job in this case but your brother should have adequate kind of visa for traineeship in order to be allowed to do training in Turkey.

Hello. I have a friend from Iran who wants to live in turkey for 1 year… is it true he should make a deposit of $2700 as his bond in turkey because Turkish embassy requires it?

    • ExpatGuideTurkey

      Hello,
      Thank you for your comment.

There is no such a requirement and whoever provides this kind of information is most probably trying to scam your friend. No deposit is required from foreigners who would like to stay in Turkey for any period of time. Immigration office can only ask foreigners for bank statements while applying for residence permit in order to prove that they are capable of sustaining in Turkey.

      Hello,

In order to obtain work permit, first you need to find a job in Turkey and your future employer must apply for your work permit. Foreigners can not apply for work permit in their own name or without having a job in Turkey. Application for foreigner who has residence permit valid in total for at least 6 months can be done within Turkey. For foreigners who are not residence permit holders, application must be done via Turkish Consulate in their home country. Work permit application can not be submitted basing on visa.
Otherwise, you can also establish your own company. In this case to obtain work permit for yourself as an owner, your company’s paid capital must be at least 100.000 TL and there must be 5 Turkish citizens employed per each foreigner in the company including yourself.

    Hi,
I am from one of the countries listed for visa exemption (Peru) for tourism purposes (90/180 day period). I recently found a job that will do the work permit. Before coming to Turkey I was residing in Romania for three years but my visa expired. I read that my future employer can only request the work permit if I have a residence permit for at least 6 months.
Can I subscribe to a Turkish course so that I can request a studies visa for six months, thus my employer would be able to request the work permit? Or if I don’t, can I apply from the Turkish consulate in Romania without having to go back all the way to Peru?
    Thank you,
    Esteban

    • ExpatGuideTurkey

      Hello,
      Thank you for your comment.

You can apply for short term residence permit for touristic purposes or as a foreigner who will join Turkish course. If this kind of permit would be granted, your employer can apply for your work permit within Turkey. Although there is no guarantee that the permit will be granted or that it will be valid 6 months. Otherwise application is supposed to be done from Peru. It is very rare that foreigners are allowed to apply from consulate in countries other than country of their nationality and there must be a serious reason like, for example, military conflict in foreigner’s homecountry.

    Hi,
I would like to kindly ask few questions, to make sure that I understand the applications properly.
The work permit is purely down to the employer? Correct me if I am wrong.
So first I have to conduct a Skype interview and agreement (applying to be an English Teacher)
What exactly is residence permit for? (my passport is Slovak, I heard that my application is more easy in comparison to American citizen).

    Thank you,
    Ema

      Hello,
      Thank you for your comment.

In order to obtain work permit, first you need to find a job in Turkey and your future employer must apply for your work permit. You will only need to provide your employer with few documents and visit Turkish Consulate in your home country to confirm the application. Residence permit allows you to stay in Turkey for longer period of time than visa (usually 1-2 years) but doeas not allow you to work in Turkey.

Thank you for the explanation and details.

You write that I would need to visit Turkish Consulate in my home country to confirm application?
My country, Slovakia, is very small. I do not know of such a thing.
Is there an international website where I can find this? (I also lived in the UK since 10 years old, for 13 years).

I wonder where the European citizens go to find this confirmation for application?

        Kind regards,
        Ema

Hello, is it possible to apply for the new work permit within 10 working days after the expiry of the old one? My work permit ends today, the other company I am going to work for will support a new work permit for me, but they will all be back on Monday. I am trying to avoid the hassle with obtaining the residence permit in order to get the work one. The 170 call center provides confusing info. Some say it’s possible, some say it’s not. Would highly appreciate your advice and comment. As far as I know the cancellation of the old one will go into power after 3 days after the expiry date, so it means I do have time. It’s really confusing. Many thanks in advance!
