How foreıgner could get maternıty grant ın Turkey?

Did you know that government pay maternity grant to everyone for new-born babies regardless of their financial situation or employment status?

Government gives TRY 300 for the first child, TRY 400 for the second child and TRY 600 for the third child.

FOREIGN SPOUSES CAN ALSO BENEFIT FROM MATERNITY GRANT

Maternity grant is introduced in 2015. The amount to be paid is TRY 300 for the first child, TRY 400 for the second child and TRY 600 for the third and more children. Maternity grants are exempt from all kinds of tax and deductions. Maternity grant is paid for the children who are born after 15 May 2015. However, when determining the amount to be paid, children who were born earlier are taken into consideration. For example, if a couple who had 2 children born before 15 May 2015 have a child this year, TRY 600 will be paid to them.

MATERNITY GRANT IS NOT PAID FOR ADOPTED CHILDREN

In order to benefit from maternity grant, both of the spouses or one of them must be a Turkish citizen. Turkish citizens who are living abroad and the denaturalized expats who have “blue card” can also benefit from maternity grant. If both parents are alive and Turkish citizens, maternity grant is paid to the mother. In the event that mother is not Turkish citizen or is deceased, maternity grant is paid to the father who is a Turkish citizen. If the Turkish mother whose husband is a foreigner is deceased, maternity grant is paid to legal guardian. Maternity grant is not paid for adopted children. However, when determining the amount to be paid for a new-born baby, adopted children are also taken into consideration. Parents who have a baby when they have already an adopted child will have TRY 400 as maternity grant.

NO DOUBLE PAYMENT FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYEES

If one of the parents is working in a public organization as a worker, this should be indicated in application. If these parents are already having maternity grant in accordance with individual or collective employment contract and if the amount paid to them is less than the maternity grant paid by the government, only the difference will be paid to them. If the amount paid by the organization is higher than the maternity grant paid by the government, no additional payment is made. However, there is no such restriction for the workers in private sector. For example, a private sector worker who is a member of a union may have maternity grant from both the employer and the government.

TO WHERE THE APPLICATION WILL BE MADE?

Applications for maternity grant will be submitted to: Provincial Directorates of Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Social Service Centre, Organization where the public employees work, Embassies and Consulates, Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundations.

15 DAYS FOR OBJECTION

Ministry of Family and Social Policies checks the identity information of the applicants on the Identity Sharing System and may reject the application if necessary. People whose maternity grant application is rejected or paid deficiently may file an objection. Objections should be submitted to Provincial Directorate of Ministry of Family and Social Policies in writing within 15 days after the rejection.

LEGAL GUARDIAN MAY APPLY IN CASE OF DEATH

Maternity grants are paid to the mother. For that reason, if the mother is Turkish citizen, maternity grant application should be made by the mother or by the father on behalf of the mother. In the event that mother is not Turkish citizen or deceased, application can be made by the father who is a Turkish citizen or the legal guardian of the child. Legal guardian of the child may apply if both mother and father are deceased.
